Single Point Load Cell

ADI CONTROLS Model ASP-671 is a strain gauge–based, low-profile bending beam load cell designed for bench, counting, floor, postal, and retail scale applications. Engineered for low eccentric load sensitivity, it is suitable for platform sizes up to 300 x 300 mm. Constructed from anodized aluminium alloy, the ASP-671 offers excellent durability, lightweight design, and high accuracy. This compact and reliable load cell is an ideal choice for tabletop and small platform scales and is also referred to as Model 60710.

FAQs

frequently asked questions

01. What is a Single Point Load Cell and where is it commonly used?

A single point load cell (also known as a platform load cell or parallel beam load cell) is a type of force sensor designed to provide an accurate reading regardless of the position of the load on its weighing platform. It achieves this by having a minimal sensitivity to off-center loading.

  • > Common Uses:
    • > Bench scales
    • > Retail/checkout scales
    • > Small platform scales
    • > Conveyor scales
    • > Packaging machinery
02. What is the key advantage of a single point load cell over other load cell types?

The primary advantage is its independence from eccentric loading (off-center loading). Since its design inherently compensates for varying load positions, you only need one single point load cell to measure the weight accurately on a given platform, simplifying the mechanical design and calibration of the weighing system.

03. How do I select the correct capacity and platform size for my application?
  • > Capacity: Choose a capacity that is 30-50% higher than the maximum expected net weight (including the weight of the platform and any tare weight). This buffer accounts for potential shock loads and vibrations, ensuring longevity.
  • > Platform Size: Ensure the cell’s specified maximum platform size is sufficient for your application. Using a platform larger than the specification can introduce unacceptable eccentric loading errors.
04. What is the difference between an Aluminium and a Stainless-Steel single point load cell?
Feature Aluminium Stainless Steel
Cost Lower Higher
Environment Dry, clean applications Harsh, wet, or corrosive environments
Sealing Typically IP65 Usually IP67 or IP68 (better moisture protection)
Typical Use Bench scales, check weighers Food processing, washdown areas
05. What are the key factors to consider for accurate installation?

Proper installation is critical for accuracy:

  • > Mounting Surface: The mounting surface (both the scale base and the platform) must be perfectly flat and rigid to prevent bending or stress on the cell.
  • > Zero-Motion: The platform must be completely free-floating and not touch the scale base or any adjacent structure (no side-loading).
  • > Cable Routing: Ensure the cable is secured and routed away from high-temperature sources and sharp edges, allowing for its natural movement without stress.
